Day 1 Analysis!

Heyo peepz! Okay I'm supposed to do this pt about food..interesting haha(: I totally forgot about this during the holidays -.- too busy with CSI): bleh. but anyway. I'm starting! And yes, the deadline's this thursday..stop staring at me..

This is what I ate today! :D

Time
Food
Quantity
6.15am
peanut butter bread
2 slices
10 am
nuggets from East and West stall
3
2.45pm
rice with scrambled egg and a chicken drumstick (the dark soy sauce kind!)
1 plate
4.45pm
chocolate rolls
2
7pm
with chicken (pre-packed type) and leek
1 plate

Look what I found for my intake of peanut butter bread
-71% calories from fats
-14% calories from carbohydrates
-15% calories from protein
Peanut Butter Calories Here's a pic for easy reference!

NOW THAT'S BADD. 71% calories of fats just from peanut butter alone! Really really unhealthy! I used to think that peanut butter was healthy, because there were peanuts inside ._. Well, now I know better/: at least I still get carbohydrates and protein from peanut butter though! But of course I shall try to reduce the amount of peanut butter I consume ><

I tried to research on what nuggets contain..(obviously they contain meat -.-) but I can't find anything!! So let's move on..

Rice! Full of carbohydrates, what I need to consume plenty (but not too much of) so that I can have energy hohoho! Researched on benefits of carbo!

1. Certain carbs benefit digestion by providing nutrients for healthy bacteria in the gut. In addition, carbs may benefit calcium levels by increasing calcium absorption from food.
2. The availability of carbohydrate energy prevents the body from breaking down muscle tissue for fuel.

Pretty interesting(:

Moving on, egg has calcium while the chicken has protein! I loooove egg, it's so good!!! I never knew egg contained calcium till I did some research..and now I know that the calcium in eggs can help me build strong bones and teeth :D Can't eat too much egg though..I'll break out in rashes): And chicken!!! I love chicken tooo..the one I had in school was really tasty and yummy! It was the kind with the dark soy sauce and it was skinless, which is healthy because sometimes the skin contains a lot of unhealthy fattttt (yuck) which is not good for our body! Chicken has protein, and protein is an important building block of bones, muscles, cartilage, skin, and blood. Thus, I have to eat as much protein as I can! Right?

WRONG. Too much protein won't help you. We have to exercise too! Exercising helps us to burn off excess fats and keeps our body healthy!

Little tidbit: For older children, teen girls, active women, and most men, the guidelines give the nod to two daily servings for a total of six ounces. I better keep to this man. :D Healthy diet = Healthy body = Happy Me ;DD

Blog Analysis(:

Here are the 3 blogs I analysed!

Christina Wong: (http://fooooodblog.blogspot.com/)
I feel that Christina has managed to capture the attention of her readers through the very interesting blogskin, as well as the fact that she made use of many pictures associated with food. I especially like the fact that she used the pictures of the food pyramids, which firstly, brightened up the blog, and secondly, was reference for her readers just in case they wanted to look through the food pyramids as well. Her analysis of her food intake is also very detailed, showing that she put in a lot of effort to make sure she knows exactly what she consumes. Well done!

Samantha Lee: (http://you-arewhatyoueat.blogspot.com/)
Samantha has certainly put in a lot of effort in this PT, as can be seen from her analysis of her diet. She made sure she accessed the hpb board and planted all the necessary information in there so she knows what exactly is going into her body and how it affects her health(: I like the fact that in each blog post, she meticulously indicates what tool she used, so that her readers know what they can access when they themselves check the hpb website out. Also, in her one dish meal, she states all the ingredients used to make this dish, and provides a detailed explanation of why this dish is healthy, which I felt was a very good job done. Greattt job Samantha!

Cheryl Chong (http://myfoodielove.blogspot.com/)
Cheryl has been detailed in her analysis, and her reflections show that she has certainly understood this module! She meticulously made sure she accessed the hpb board to get all the informatio needed(:  Futhermore, she included a picture of the food pyramid, which really gave the whole blog a 'kick' because it contrasted the dark blue background colour. What I felt she could have improved on was her one-dish meal . More elaboration could have been included on why her suggested dish was considered healthy. Overall, good job!

Day 2 Analysis!

Here's what I ate today(:

Time
Food
Quantity
6.15am
mooncake
1 small square piece
2.45pm
Fried rice with chicken chop
1 plate
6.30pm
Egg noodles with vegetables
1 bowl (noodles)

Since I can't access the hpb website, I shall try to analyse my food intake myself..):

The type of mooncake I ate was the one with lotus paste inside. It was pretty good! :) I tried researching on what mooncake is rich in, but I can't get anything): Based on what I know, mooncake is pretty unhealthy, especially if you have it for breakfast/: but ohwell, this morning it was staring at me..For lunch, I had fried rice with chicken chop, basically just slices of chicken, and ketchup + chilli of course. The rice here was a good source of carbohydrates, and the chicken was protein, which has vitamin and minerals in it. Only thing is that it has slightly higher cholesterol than beef, but there was no beef there, so yeah :D And lastly, for dinner, I had egg noodles, which once again is a source of carbohydrates, and cabbage which has a lot of vitamin C!

Looks like I ate a little too much of carbohydrate food today, I should learn to balance my diet out more..only then can I have a more healthy body! :D

Day 3 Analysis!

Here's what I ate today! :D

Time
Food
Quantity
6.15am
butter roll with cream cheese and margarine
1
10am
fish and cheese burger
1
1.20pm
fan choy
1
7.10pm
rice with steamed fish and long beans
1 plate/portion for 1 person

Since I can't access the hpb website now, I shall try to do my own analysis...

It seems like I consumed a lot of cheese and bread today! Butterroll is bread, which means it's high in carbohydrates. The fish and cheese burger I ate was from the school canteen, and the fish was deep fried (not too deep fried though), which is unhealthy, but I guess eating fried food once in a while isn't that bad...fan choy looks like this: and it was so goood! Really filling too! This is basically a dish made up of rice and char siew (meat). Rice is once again carbohydrates, and meat protein! :D

So today was pretty much protein and carbohydrates! I should try to eat more of other foods, like vegetables and other vitamin-rich foods!

Reflections!

Reflections!

Firstly, what's most unfortunate is that I can't access the hpb website, probably because too many people are chionging their pts now >< and so I cannot get what I need to analyse my diet! D: But I shall try to reflect on what I've done so far!

What have you learnt about your eating habits?
Well, I would say I haven't been eating enough of vegetables, and I should reduce my intake of meat, especially chicken, which I think I eat too much of D: I don't snack that much, which is good, but I don't eat entirely healthy food all the time too, so I would consider my diet to be more on the unhealthy side. Hopefully, after this analysis, I would make necessary changes to my diet to take my 'food intake on a healthy path' :D

Would you consider your food diet to be a healthy one? Why?
I would consider my food diet to be an unhealthy one, as mentioned earlier. I feel that I have been comsuming too much of protein and carbohydrates (though I don't exactly know what the recommended amount is..):) and too little of vegetables, which means that I am not getting enough vitamins from diet for my body. Also, too much of protein isn't good as too much of that will lead to excess fats stored in my body, mainly the blood vessels. This raises the chances of my arteries clogging and leading to heart diseases, which I obviously don't want to have. Although I don't eat a lot of potato chips and chocolate, since I don't particularly like them a lot, it still adds up to all the unnecessary sugar stored in my body, which will eventually be stored as fats): urgh.

Are the suggested nutritional tools useful? How?
I went to explore the other pages as I wasn't able to access that particular food analysis page and *tadaa* I found this whole chunk of information on healthy eating! And what I've learnt is that it is important to eat a variety of food, meaning eating different foods from all the four food groups. Each food group offers a variety of choices and each one has a unique nutritional value. Also, it is important to eat a balanced diet, meaning eating the recommended number of servings of food from the four food groups daily. And lastly, eat in moderation, meaning that we should eat the right amount of food, neither too much nor too little. Also, foods high in fat, sugar, and salt should only be consumed in small amounts at all times(: I sure learned so much from this!

Why is your suggested one dish meal healthy?
Explained it in a post below! (:

1 Healthy Dish Meal!

1 healthy dish meal:

Fish is always the best because it's brain food! Which is what we teens need a lot to help us remember facts and all the necessary math concepts. From my research, fish is a great source of protein. :D .  Protein is reallly really important, especially for us teenagers, as we are in our 'growing stages' (I forgot the word for this O:) and we need to make sure we eat a lot to absorb as much brain food as we can :D Also, they contain healthy fats that will reduce your cholesterol and improve your health! This is way way way better than fatty chicken skins and other rich-in-fat foods! And fish also contains omega 3 fatty acids that help keep my heart healthy, which is very important now as we need to make sure our heart is at tip top condition, if not problems may ensue in the future O:

So yepp, eat more fishh! :D Sure helps you in the long run! :D
